Az ókori keleteseknek nem kell bemutatni Itamar Singert: az édesapja révén kolozsvári családból származó, de még gyerekkorában kivándorolt (s így magyarul már csak néhány szót tudó) izraeli kutató a hettiták, Ugarit és az Amarna-kor egyik legkiválóbb ismerője, szövegkiadásai, tanulmányai megkerülhetetlenek, s nem utolsósorban neki köszönhető a tel-avivi hettitológiai iskola létrejötte, amely egyedülálló Izraelen belül és kiemelkedő a nemzetközi hettitológiában (csak két név onnan: Yoram Cohen és Jared L. Miller). Nyugdíjazása alkalmából 2008. december 29.-én kis szimpóziumot tartanak, mely ugyan nagyrészt Itamar Singerről fog szólni (khm...), de lesz tudományos előadás is.
